Our Family Story - Ti Kouka Farm - Waimārama

Farming at Ti Kouka Farm has always been about more than just raising animals for us. Andy and I began our farming life 25 years ago with a respect for the land and an understanding that we are its caretakers, not just its users. It was clear to us early on that organic farming was the path we wanted to follow.

We made a commitment to organic practices, not only because we believe it's better for the animals and for the people who consume our products, but because it's better for the earth. Organic farming is about working with nature rather than against it. This means nurturing the soil, respecting the biodiversity that supports it, and ensuring that what we do today leaves the land healthier and more resilient for future generations.

At Ti Kouka Farm, everything we do is grounded in the idea of sustainability. The way we manage our animals—ensuring they live healthy, natural lives—and the way we care for our land, is all about creating a system that thrives over time. Healthy soil is the foundation of everything we do, and we focus on practices that build up the soil, enhance its fertility, and improve its water retention. This creates a rich environment where everything from the grass to the microbes in the earth can flourish.

Being part of The Organic Farm Butchery community and now connected to Emile and REGEN+ is a fantastic recognition of the value of organic farming in New Zealand.

Our farm is part of a much bigger ecosystem, and we want to be sure that we’re leaving behind something that can support not only our family, but future farmers and the wider community. It’s about protecting the land and its resources, so it continues to provide food, life and beauty for generations to come.
